Therapy and Counseling
We use the terms "therapy" and "counseling" interchangeably. We use them to refer to the process of support that combines the usage of research and science with the art of building rapport to foster a therapeutic relationship that contributes to cognitive and behavioral change.
Specialties
Dr. Sconyers is licensed as a Psychologist in Missouri and Virginia. She specializes in the treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Anxiety-Related Disorders including but not limited to generalized anxiety, social anxiety, phobias, panic disorder, etc. It is important to note that Dr. Sconyers sees people as people and does not define them by their diagnoses.
Strategies and Modalities
Dr. Sconyers primarily uses motivational interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) in her work with clients. She also earned a certificate in Integrative Somatic Trauma Therapy and encourages somatic interventions when appropriate. Dr. Sconyers provides individualized sessions with children and adults ages 11 and up, but considers caregiver involvement an essential component of child-related services.
Client Fit Is Key
Dr. Sconyers recognizes that fit is extremely important in deciding upon a mental health provider and she acknowledges that one size does not fit all in therapy (or really anything for that matter). She is someone who is knowledgeable, grounded, warm, and affirming. If you feel that she may be a good match for your needs, please email, call, or message us! If it is determined at any point that another individual may be better suited for your needs, a referral can be provided.
